WEEK 01 : PROJECT MANAGEMENT

I have interpreted the Spiral Model of project management by creating small but complete itterations of both these project pages and the major project. As a first version of the project page I have decided to learn coding from scratch, Week 1 has led me to grapple with basic design and coding principles of a web page and the use of tags and principles of standard HTML5. I will edit and improve this in a cyclic fashion by revisiting and expanding out from this basic model using sublime text 2. I aim to finish with a multipage infrastructure with feeds, interactive objects and more complex embedded content.

Major Project : Modular Dynamo System

I like bikes ... and want to efficiently capture and convert the power of motion generated when cycling into an onboard power system for use with devices on the move and away from home. This will be achieved by creating a new modular component system that improves on old style dynamos and will make use of modern small magnet technologies and by lowering contact pressure and energy loss by friction. Initially I propose a top mounted dynamo module that can be repeated and linked in series to form a chain of generator modules. In turn the energy generated will connect to and charge a hydrogen battery storage system, the more modules the more power.

Dynamo system name = Entropillar

I will explore ways of hybridising a mud guard, a dynamo, hydrogen battery cell, google latitude and twitter. A further asepect will be that the hard housing of the dynamo modules will be able to swing down and elivate the bike for the purpose of generating power in the home.

Also I envisage a series of offshoot products and devices that can work with the system. The system will act as a design kernal will facilitate and be adapted and integrated for use with other powered cycling devices, (possibilities for this design typology are listed in the mind map below). socialise and map my cycling energy entropy using mobile devices!
