19. Project development

Assignment:
Complete your final project tracking your progress.

What tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain?

My main goal was achieved and that is that the diorama has different display levels. Currently only two, but in the future I would like to be able to display conditions such as twilight, perhaps even a rainy day or other. The more states there are, the less a photodiode is sufficient, so it might make sense to connect more input options. in itself, however, the base works, so I have achieved my main goal.

What has worked? what hasn't?

Since my main goal is more or less foolproof, the basic stuff actually worked directly. However, I had massive problems with my boards, because everytime something was wrong. I was able to mill out my main board 8 times because our machine was not adjusted and no one was there who knew what was going on. In the end, however, it could be repaired and I finally had a beautiful board.
Another problem was that I'm a failure at soldering and my solder joints never look that pretty. I also had problems with cold solder joints in the beginning when I was still working with the soldering oven. Since I soldered by hand, this got wayy better.

What questions need to be resolved?

Only one left!
What extras could be added and how is it possible to implement them?
  • It would be nice to have an app that controls every output
  • Music is possible
  • Moving things is possible
  • And connection to more dioramas would be interesting
  • How do I place a fog machine in there without damaging the electronics??
And so on and so forth...

What will happen when?

To see the whole process of building this project, look at my assignments. I used almost all of them for my final. This is the result with the states displayed:

What have you learned?

I have learned so many things! The most exciting part for me was the circuit board development, because I find it fascinating to build a device that can do so much. I especially liked that I could create the shapes of the pcb myself and that my first board actually worked! I was able to use it to program my other boards. I also met some very nice new Fab people who helped me among other things. Thank you for that!
