About Me

Hi, my name is Anna Sophia Brokuf! I'm a research assistant at Hochschule Ruhr West in Bottrop, where I'm also pursuing a Master's degree in Computer Science.

My journey at the FabLab started in December 2021, when I began working there alongside my Applied Computer Science studies. Over the years I learned to operate almost every machine in the lab and developed a strong passion for microcontroller programming and digital fabrication.

During my studies I worked on several projects at the lab, including building an ESP32-based LoRaWAN emission measurement system and wrote my Bachelor's thesis on social robotics with Pepper the robot as a lab assistant.

I also enjoyed supporting visitors during open evenings, helping them bring their ideas to life and introducing people to Arduino programming in workshops. The Girls' Day events were always a personal highlight. I was also responsible for the lab's drones, which felt natural since I've been flying drones privately since 2016.

After finishing my Bachelor's degree I continued working at the lab part-time and at the same time I moved to the economics institute to further develop my programming skills and to broaden my horizon on a new research project. Participating in Fab Academy as part of my Master's studies feels like the perfect way to round off everything I've experienced and learned during my years at the lab.
