Composites

Due to the Anzac weekend I wasn't able to make much progress on my composite item for this weeks assignment. I have mainly spent time looking at different materials and matrices for when I get around to casting my item. We went on a field trip to a composites factory and got to see a wet layout and an infusion mold being done. It was interesting to see the small details like using a stiff brush to push the fibre into shape within the mold and the use of spray tack to hold the fibre in place.

As a group we did make some samples using vacuum bagging however we forgot to put add a layer for peel ply between the mold and fabric which resulted in not been able to free the final composite item from the mold. But is was useful to go though the proess and when doing it next time the process will be much easier.
