Lesson 7

    What Neil was talking about:
  • CNC machine types
  • Materials for CNC machine
  • Vendors of those materials
  • Tools
  • Assignment tool
  • Toolpaths
  • Flexibility
  • Formats for CNC
  • S A F E T Y ! ! ! ! !

    Homework:
  • I have made a laptop holder. I have made a "cubistic" design and then used the node editor tool in Inkscape for turning it into a rounded shape.
  • At the start, I didn't knew what kind of "something big" I want to make. I thought about making a trash can for my new room, but I got confused with the whole thing about the measurements for the ShopBot (because I didn't got enough experience with Inkscape for changing the measurements and all that stuff like holes and barebones). So I decided to make a 3D model and then transfer it to 2D in 123D Make. But when I have opened 123D Make and imported the STL, I saw how bad it looked and I have said that I don't want to make it (it looked really bad and I was needed something like 1hr for it to mill which I didn't got). So I have made a laptop holder (I have made it also in the composites lesson) for my new MacBook. It went PERFECT! Unfortunately, I didn't got (right now) images of the holder itself (except the one that's showing Dana's laptop on it).
  • Here is the final design.
  • Some pictures:
  • The very first (v0.1) design:
  • The first (v1.0) design:
  • The second (v2.0) design:
  • The third (v3.0) and last design:
  • Dana's laptop on the holder (anter fabricating):
