Final Project

3D Zoetrope

What will the Zoetrope do?

A Zoetrope is a mechanical device that creates the illusion of moving pictures, based on a spinning cylinder in which slits are cut. As the cylinder spins, the user looks through the slits at the pictures across. The scanning of the slits keeps the pictures from simply blurring together, and the user sees a rapid succession of images, producing the illusion of motion.

My plan is to produce a 3D Zoetrope that makes static 3D sculptures appear to move and come to life explaining the basic concept and principles of animation. Using strobe LED lights and a number of sculptures, each a little different then the last, on a rotating platform the 3D Zoetrope will recreate the effect of looking through slits of the original zoetropes.
