Invention, Intellectual Property and Business Models

Week 19

Introduction

In this week, a dissemination plan for the final project must be developed, along with drafts of summary slide or video clip of the final project presentation.

Dissemination Plan

Dissemination Plan is made by specifying an objective, audience, timeline, resources and strategy.

Objectives:

The aim of the object is to develop a rapidly prototyped platform used to deploy trained object detectors to classify facially expressed emotions.

Audiences:

The project is for customer service centers to provide as an interactive platform for their customers. Potentially, the customer happiness metrics may be integrated to existing customer service center's metrics. But for now, it is a mock-up project to see how customers would interact with the system.

Timeline:

The project requires an optimum duration of a month. During this month, the project structure is designed, fabricated, and assembled. Components would be integrated with the controller, and programmed to carry out a set of instructions according to the algorithm devised through embedded controller. The time frame also includes making a video, a poster and etc.

Resources:

Most of the components that would make up the project can already be found in the FABLAB. Components such as the linear rod and bearings can be sourced from the local market. The reason why most materials and components are already available is because the project is designed to be produced in FABLABs.

Strategy:

To make the project using the knowledge gained from the Fab Academy program. To work fast, and try to spend less time in troubleshooting non-crucial issue.

Future Opportunities

Being based in Dubai, there are many opportunities for my final project in terms of showcasing it if not deploying it permanently or selling it off to an entity. The data used to train the neural network restrict making a profit out of it, thus restricting me from making a profit of the network. In addition, I already attempted patenting parts of my thesis along with the final project, and the entity advised against the idea for various reasons. I was left with one potential option, licensing the final project with the same license used for the data, Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International.

There are many possibilities for the project in Dubai, especially with the government sector which are always interested to offer its customers interactive platforms such as the Facial Expression Detector. To make it possible cooperating with a governmental sector, an idea can be submitted through Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Majlis, a website platform used to connect individuals with governmental entities to implement new ideas and resolve existing issues, MBR Smart Majlis.

In the website, I choose "SHARE YOUR IDEAS"

Then chose, departments, Smart Dubai

Below is description of the idea.

Below is description and reference number of the submitted idea.
