Computer Controlled Machining

In this week I made vertical garden using Shopbot Machine as inspired from AKER. To complete this assingnment get lots support from Apeksha and COEP fablab team as we havn't shopbot Machine in our lab.

Following are the steps explaning what I did.

Design :

Software used: Inkscape

Step 1:This vertical garden builted in three steps having area 6ft x 6ft x 2ft. Base part is hexagon ;middle and upper one is rectangular. Considering these shape assumptions(For assumptions and geometry made paper model and sketches) object designed in Inkscape design software.

First step is Hexagon of sides having length 80cm and hight 25cm each. To connect two sides in 120 degree angle made slots on each end of side having width 11mm as material thickness is 8mm. There is a space of 3mm to make tilt of 120degree in between sides. Using 'Difference' tool made notches on rectangular plate.





Here in above design to make rectangular second step calculated digonal of Isoceles traingle equal to Squr.root 3 X h(side). Here h= 80 cm so digonal length comes 135.99 cm. Calculating these dimensions and made above design in Inkscape.


Exported .PDF file for this design . Shopbot cutting:

Step:2 Imported this .pdf file inside Partworks shopbot cutting software. Go inside file--> Material Size-->Set sheet size choosing proper scale -->Select material thickness (here 8mm)-->set offset if required to set .



Step :3 Adjust a design file with sheet size under edit window. Select desired object for toolpath and click on 'Toolpath' bar located at right side of corner.

Step :4 Inside Toolpath selected 2D profile toolpath --> Start depth : 0 ;Cut depth:8.2 mm --> Under Tool bar-->tool diameter:0.25 inch-->outside . Afetr this error message popup; infroms about material is going to cut.



Step :5 Final toolpath genrated.Save this shopbot file having extension .sbp.



Step :6 Open this .sbp file with application software for shopbot .Adjust origin ;start compressor and give a print.Cutting is in progress..
