Computer Controlled Cutting

For this weeks assingment I decided to design Pen stand design which have interlocking in between.This design mainly consisiting base part middle supports and standing supports(Pillers).

To design all these parts I used Inkscape design software which is open source.


Inkscape design:
In this First I did rough sketch of each part on paper. In inkscape design I designed base part which is square shape on that I did slots which is inclined at 45 deg.from each corner and having size 8mm x 4mm.Hight is same as like bottom notch of Pillers. To design middle supports which is 8 in numbers and having a size 60mm width and 60mm hight, I used basic primitive rectangle,arrannged them in perpendicular,grouped both.

With The help of "Union" tool which is under "Path"window I made them whole object. At each side,I made slots of size 8 mm x 4mm size and hight equal to width of acrylic/carbboard sheet.

Final inkscape design for base part and middle supports.

At second stage of design process I have to make pillers for to give supports to Middle supports .As per sketch I decided hight of 120mm and 15mm wide. There are 8 Middle supports; to fix it on a piller notches of size 8mm x 4mm I created slots on piller.Each piller having 4 slots to fix Middle supports.At the bottom male job is created of size 8mm width and hight same equal to width of sheet.It will fix inside base part slots.

Now my .svg files are ready of penstand for Laser cutting.

Laser Cutting:

I used 'Fabmodule'for laser cutting.Installed first Fabmodule on my machine ;with 'sudo fab' I get acess of fabmodule window on my screen.

After that in settings I selected .svg file format.Penstand design which is made in Inkscape apperaed on screen.Setted printer as a laser cutter and made .svg to rml file.

Settings:
Sheet size:24 inch x12 inch

Speed:12% Power: 70% Frequency:5000
With this settings file sent to Epilog Leser cutter.

Vinyl Cutting design for final project:

For my final project I have cut project letters"Auto irrigated vertical garden " on vinyl cutter. First i made png file using inkscape design software with letters 'AUTO IRRIGATED VERTICAL GARDEN'and exported .png image format for fabmodules.





Imported this png file in fabmodule ;selected printer type Roland CAMM-1 vinyl cutter and made camm file for this.Printed this on CAMM-1 vinyl cutter with settings Force=45 and velocity=5.

Have to apply it on final project.
