About me

(me-on the right)

Hi! My name is Sophia Vona. I am a sophomore at Charlotte Latin School in Charlotte, North Carolina and I like Engineering(duh), the arts, and Netflix.

I took my first Engineering class my freshman year and absolutely loved it. I’ve always been super into figuring out how stuff works and creating my own things, so I am super excited to dive into this Fabacademy course!

My background

I was born in a nice city called New York City but I lived most of my life in New Jersey. We were only a hop skip and a jump away from the City, which felt like my second home.

I moved to Charlotte 5 and 1/2 years ago. The warmer weather is definitely my favorite part (I miss the snow though). I’ve been attending Charlotte Latin for a year and a half (since I started high school)

Previous work

I have taken Engineering Design 1 and Engineering Design 2 at Charlotte Latin. These are the introductory classes at our school, and I’ve enjoyed learning the basics of CAD, design, using the addition/subtraction tools needed to make our designs in the real world (3d printing, Laser cutting, and CNC Shopbot) so I have a bit of experience coming in to this course.

My favorite project from last year was a Lichtenberg Machine (now dubbed the “LichtenBURN”), which burnt Lightning- like patterns (fractals) into wood using high voltage.

Check out my Digital Portfolio from last year to see this and other fun projects!
