Application and Implication

ASSIGNMENT

Propose a masterpiece of final design that integrates the range of covered units ansering to some question:

SOME THOUGHTS

What will it do?

The object of my project will have several functions and utilities:
- it will illuminate the room with a relaxing light;
- it will allow you to listen to music;
- it will be able to recharge your smartphone via wireless charging;

The aim is to incorporate all of the above into a single "design object", a furnishing accessory for relaxing at home alone or in company.

The functions expressly declare the usefulness of the product, which is suitable and usable by everyone because it is easy to understand, even for people with less technological knowledge.

What will you design?

There are as many different parts as there are techniques/technologies:
3D PRINTING: with the 3D printer you will print all the necessary magnetic bases and the base for wireless charging. In addition, the support for the LED is also printed, so that it can be opened and closed, with sufficient dimensions to contain all the electronic parts.
Apart from the base for wireless charging, a magnet is added to the other pieces:
HOW TO DO IT?
Easy: when the printer has almost pretended to print the perimeter of the space where the magnet will be inserted, pause it to allow the insertion.

CNC: the CNC is used to mill the workpiece (the case for the final project) to make 3 holes of different sizes and an internal rectangular cut.

VINYL CUTTER: the vinyl cutter is used to print two black strips which must adhere to and cover the perimeter of the project, not least for aesthetic reasons (some of the smears produced by the application of glue are masked). In my opinion, the black vinyl enhances the work by interrupting the monotony of the wood.

LASER CUT: Using a laser, I cut some 4 mm thick pieces in the shape of an irregular horseshoe. I laser cut these pieces so that they could be fixed later on inside the case with the aim of using them as a WIRE/ CABLE STOPPER inside.

SMALL CUTTER: With the small cutter, the ROLAND, two boards are milled:
the BOARD which controls the voltage of all the electronic materials by soldering on a VOLTAGE REGULATOR and the connection pins of the different cables;
the BOARD that allows me to control the LedRing where a led, a 400ohm resistor, a 0 ohm resistor and an Attiny_44 that will be programmed to control the ledring are soldered onto a Mosfet.

- What materials and components will be used? You have to make a list of the things you need to replicate your design, from the first screw to the machines. It is like a list of materials.
The materials used are:
- WOOD
- PLA
- VINYL

The components used are:
- 4 x 8cm screws;
- hot glue;
- 4 x 0.8cm screws for each piece to fix the magnetic bases on the inside to the outside;
- cables to connect all the electronic pieces to each other and to the power supply;

What will it do?

It will be an abatjour with several other complementary functions

Who did what before?

There are abatjours of all shapes, there are floating lamps, there are of course sound diffusers, cellular charges

What will you design?

The final project, as already mentioned, is a complex abatjour made up of a floating lamp with luminous gradation, a cellular charger with weireless system, a sound diffuser on a support that forms the base of the lamp.

Which materials and components will be used?

Main materials: wood for the base, pla and plastic for diffusers and cellular charge holder

Where will come from?

...element being studied...

How much will they cost?

Element assessable only at the end of the project

What parts and systems will be made?

Electronic systems will be used to ensure that everything can be controlled and all cables, connections, etc... will be positioned in the internal cavity

Which processes will be used?

A software will be used for the design of the external part and then an additional software for the internal electronic part. After this, various machines will be used for the realization.

Which questions need to be answered?

Is it useful? Is it functional? Is it interesting? Is it easy to use? Does it have an attractive design? Is it economical?

How will it be evaluated?

Element assessable only at the end of the project
