Week 20. Invention, intellectual property and business models
29.05.19 Class
This class is the last of the fabacademy, we are all very sad to finish. During this class, topics such as inventions, intellectual property, within this whole subject of patents, searches, trademarks, etc. have been discussed. The issue of how to generate the sales and income of the projects has also been seen if the creator of the project so wishes.
Week planification
This week I have not organized either, well yes, but I've been 100% focused on the final project, in making it, generating the slide and preparing a good video for the presentation of it. This is why I have left this assignment for the end, although from the beginning I have clear the collaborative purpose of my project, since it is very paired with the end of the bicycle that I made for my university thesis.
Individual assignment
Invention
Saflight is a safety light for cyclists. It serves to indicate the rest of users. My idea comes from the problem that exists in Spain since the users of cars and motorcycles do not respect the law that requires them to maintain a minimum distance of 1.5 m from cyclists. This breach of the law causes many deaths on the road of cyclists every year and I want to raise awareness and help people to know what is the minimum distance they have to keep, since many of them are not clear how much is 1.5 m.
In addition, saflight is a perfect complement to the wooden bicycle that I have developed in my university thesis. the character of both projects is the same at the end of the day. both have a collaborative and open source character.
Intelectual property
I have decided to follow the line of my university thesis and I am going to save my project under a creative commons license of the type: CC BY-NC-SA. This means: This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work non-commercially, as long as they credit you and license their new creations under the identical terms.
You are free to: share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform, and build upon the material).
Under the following terms:
Attribution: you must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
NonCommercial: you may not use the material for commercial purposes.
ShareAlike: if you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.
Income
With my project I have not thought about making money at any time, my only goal has been to generate an idea from which the community can replicate it to generate social awareness and also that the idea can also be a seed that people take and evolve, modify it, use it for other purposes and in the end learn all of this type of technology and visual communication.
Slide and video
For this assignment I have also made the slide and the video for the final presentation, then I show the result:
Conclusions
The main conclusion of this assignment is that more and more I have a community mentality and I am losing the entrepreneurial mentality and making a profit from the projects I had 5 years ago.
