Project Proposal

This project was in my mind since 2013th, and started with a question: What if we can do our classes more interactive and meaningful for the students?.

So thinking of them as user centered, my project aims to build a furniture interactive system for the classroom. This will help professors to improve the dynamics for learning-tecahing strategies, this furnitures will work as a tool. But first I need to start small in order to success in my Project Proposal, I will build an interactive seat. This interactive seat (classroom chair) will have detachable desktop, which have a visual emoji panel to validate and evaluate professor and students dynamics; also I am including a hole so they can hang it from the hooks installed in the panels. Will have wheels to make them quickly build teamwork stations or individual assignments. This will gave dynamic to the class, also they can align them fast before leaving the classroom. The professor will have a small receiver in hand, so he rapidly have the results of the dynamic executed in the class and viceversa the students. The bottom part of the chair will have a small room for storage things, such as lunchbox, backpack or other stuff. I am planning to build the seat based in Voronoi structures, with 3D printing, The base and structure that connects the seat with wheels and the bottom part, will be build with wood. Finally the wheels will be build with 3D printing and a layer of resin around it.

0. My project aims to positively impact in people (students), business, digital fabrication and circular economy (available to produce your own interactive classroom furniture).

1. The project concept is driven by Bolt!. According to the three meanings of the word and applied to the Education field.

2. It is a furniture organic system that enhances the interaction between the professor and his students. It has panels where you can write, hang your detachable desktop from the chair or use it as a wall when you are competing with other teams inside the classroom. But for now I will only focus on the BoltChair.

3. If I separate in four big milestones my project I can focus on achieving my goal. First, the seat, second the structure below the seat that connects with the third part of the structure (this allocates lunchbox, backpack, other stuff). This will be done with wood laser cutting. The fourth phase will be the wheel system that will bring free moving and dynamic for building teamworks, individual or collaborative work inside the classroom, I will use 3D printing.

4. I am inspired by the Voronoi organic structure. I am planning to cut the seat in parts and unite them by using brackets. The voronoi structure can be more dense in the zones where is more friction and can be more open in the less friction zones. I will use 3D printing.

5. Finally the programming and electronic parts can be installed in the desktop, including a visual emoji panel for evaluating the class dynamics or the professor or students development, plus a cell charger below it and led sensor lights when the chair is moving from one way to another or making teamworks inside the classroom.

My vision is to push the professors and students always beyond, in order to change the ways of interaction inside a classroom, and make it more fun, meaningful for both.
