Week 2. Computer Aided design

This week focused on modeling a potential final project using 2D and 3D CAD software, incorporating raster/vector graphics, rendering, and simulation. I also learned proper media compression techniques for web documentation.

Summary

Another challenging week, as CAD design isn't my core strength. A bit of persistence, watching a couple of youtube videos, checking past implementation of similar projects, was undertaken to understand the design concept of creating this project. Conversion of word written documentation was converted to HTML, using ChatGPT (Prompt: convert to HTML: then paste word document), in order to make documentation faster, but the content is solely written by me.

Main Difficulties

  1. Final project confusion:
Looking for an alternative final project, was a daunting task, as the project has to meet the criteria of the final project
  2. Fusion 360 high learning curve:
In designing my hexagonal 3D shape for my Ticktime pomodoro timer, I had some challenges with executing the thin extrude

Main Learnings

  1. Parametric Design:
I learnt how to use parameters in Fusion 360, and basically got comfortable using it for designing (not yet there)
  2. GIMP:
I tried my hands on a new tool GIMP
  3. Media compression:
The idea of batch or dierctory compression of media was a fun part I learnt
