My Reflection

After experimenting with different molding materials and techniques, we discovered that both milling and 3D printing have their pros and cons. When we used OOMOO 25 Silicone Rubber Compound for 3D printing, the molds ended up with textured finishes because of the filament marks, while milling with Sorta Clear 37 Translucent Silicone Rubber gave us smoother results, although there were faint lines from the drilling bit. It’s important to think about design limitations with each method. Milling struggles with intricate details smaller than the drill bit’s size, but 3D printing shines in capturing those intricate patterns layer by layer. Despite their differences, both methods offer ways to make molds, so it depends on what your project needs and how detailed you want the final product to be.
