A Programmer is an electronic device that configures nonvolatile programmable circuits such as EPROMs, EEPROMs, Flash, PALs, GALs, FPGAs, or others. To program a device, it is inserted into a socket (commonly ZIF) of the programmer, or its printed circuit is connected through an adapter. The data will be split differently depending on the interface, whether it is serial (JTAG, SPI) or parallel. In turn, the programmer generates the necessary voltages for programming. Programmers are usually connected to a computer that runs programming software. It configures the interface, starts programming, and changes data (usually contained in an Intel HEX or SREC file).
