Week 17 - Invention, intellectual property and income

aka Final push for the presentation.

Description

The assignment of this week is to develop a plan for dissemination of my final project.

Clearly the assignment purpose of this week fits very badly on my final project. My device embraces the virtues of local production: how to make something that has a userbase of 1. The dissemination has therefor been caried out by the act of making the device itself.

But, I must admit that everyone can dream bigger and bolder. And indeed left and right people have said that they would also like to have a just in time clock next to their door. So the, pure theoratical and probably even fictional, question about dissemination could be answered if we'd allow us to write such a piece of fiction in this tutorial and fact based piece of documentation.

In that case the following scenario is the most likely one:

Further product improvement would be the first step. The device would be redesigned to either have more personality so that people enjoy looking at it, or; the reverse, have less striking appearances so that it can blend into any home. Another improvement would be the programming of the device: not everyone is so lucky to have a ferry near their home. And also the timetables, distances and frequencies of any other piece of public transport would be different.

I'd need to come up with an easy way to insert a time table and a way to insert the time to travel so that the lights will indicate the right time to leave to every user. An app/website would probably be the friendliest way to achieve this.

After that I would make a project on kickstarter. I'd do that for the funding, but also as a way to promote the project.

For now I think that would already be reaching 500% my initial ambitions for my end project.
