In college, for my final degree project I designed a modular and folding structure based on origami. Then, I didn't have the opportunity to make the structure move by itself and I think that Fabacademy could be the right place to learn how to do it, but I don't want to only focus only in the movement, I want to create something different than just an structure that moves by itself.
For my final project in FabAcademy I would like to create a kinetic mirror sculpture to reflect the movement of the panel in the reflections of a mirror that changes to let the viewer see different visions of itself.

Origami ceiling designed to improve acoustic conditions for musicians. Interested in the way they used to transform a origami pattern made with paper, with 0 thickness, into a real object and how they resolve the hole problems that the new scale has.

The machinery used to create movement and the idea of kinetics effects are the references in this project. It's also very interesting how Vicent Leroy has used a machine to create a piece of art, the mechanical solutions are clean an beautiful, becoming a part of the piece that looks marvelous.
The main problem of this structure is how to move the triangles by their nodes in space. I need to control many rotations in different points at the same time. A possible solution is the use of compressed air combined with a cushion and telescopic rods.
If I can resolve the first problem then I will need to connect the whole group of motors and rods to a computer or board that can move then to create different shapes and forms. In this case if could be an "extra point" to make the mirror move focused in the viewer or viewers of the room.
At first my project was going to be something very different to this idea, but it said that best ideas comes from the this that you do. I started to do rock climbing a year ago and it's a sport that I love and it. I though about many ways of create something that could reduce the risk in the mountain or to improve the training in a rock Gym.
I did not found a good idea but, during 3d scanning week and later during molding and casting week I experiment with the face of my trainer to create a personalize climb hold and suddenly I thought that it could be interesting to introduce a sensor in every one of them to recognize the times and movements of the climber. This is maybe too much for a final project and I would like to think more about the best way to do something like that so I would focus in a system to count the time to finish a climb path.
It will be a cheap version of the one that is going to be use in the olympics (this year it will be rock climbing for first time) but focused in start to collect data for regular climbing as part of a bigger system not a timer focus in speed race.
This picture is from the movie BIG, the argument is about a kid that wish to be big and ended being am adult (tom hanks). The machine is Zotar a big head that opens the mouth and has red eyes. I like the idea of a climb hold that talks and congrats you when you get to the top.
There is a professional system which is based on pressure (you can see at the beginning of the video) but I would like to do something that is inside the climb hold so timer starts when the climber touch it.
This project made in 2016 has many paralelism with mine. There is a screen and a capacitor sensor that it would be in mine too. On the other hand I will use 2 capacitor sensor situated in a difference distance one to start the timer and another to stop it.

There was been some goes and rounds in my final project, I know. But this is probably the good one. My first idea need something more to work. I wasn't very sure about it because I need this one more thing and what is it? The correct input and the correct contest. Now that I have them It's time to make this thing work!
