In the Fab Academy, you learn various technique of fabrication, mainly digigital fabrication tools, that you use to convert ideas into real objects.
In the Fab Academy, we convert ideas into digital designs, and simulate things before producing them to visualize what we have in mind and check how feasible it is.
After we design all the details, we manufacture the bits and pieces using the digital fabrication tools available in the Fab Lab to build a Prototype.
After building the Prototype, we assemble all the bits and peices, test how thing go wrong (cause they always do), and then we try to enhance what we have.
Fab Lab Manager | Mechanical Engineer
I am a Mechanical Engineer with wide experience in Digital Design & Fabrication. I have a diverse engineering background with valuable experience in the electromechanical industry, including pipe manufacturing and equipment installation for oil & gas and pump station projects.
As a mechanical engineer, I have a strong background in the basic principles of engineering, methods and practices in mechanical system design. In addition, I am proficient in using most advanced CAD designing tools and programming software available in the market.
I also have technical experience in operating and controlling a wide range of digital fabrication tools and equipment including but not limited to Laser Cutters, 3D printers, and CNC machines.
So the issue is that Cad Software are New, and they have been commercially used since only 10 years or so. Saying that, the maps and designs of existing pipes are drawn on paper and thrown at some garbage or in the corner of the office of a retired (most probably dead) Engineer. So when new projects are being designed and applied, the main problem contractors face is the lack of data and designs, and many surprises that apear on the road, which could increase the cost of the project, and reducing the contactors profit. From here came the idea of a Pipe Tracking Bot, which surveys a pipe from the inside and draws a digital map to the existing pipes underground, thus saving a lot of Time, Effort and Money used to survey the existing pipes the old way.
