This week we were introduced to the inner workings of Creative Commons (CC). CC is a non-profit organization that works by expanding the range of creative works available for others to legally build upon and give an easy and safe forum to share you works. CC has a multitude of copyright licenses that you can get known as Creative Commons licenses. These are free to the public.
I will now take a brief moment to go over each of the individual licenses and choose which one would be best for my project
1. Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)
With this format anyone is able to copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, and remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially.
The Attribution Symbol means that you must give credit to original owner but not in a way that would make it seem that you are endorced
2. Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0)
With this format anyone can also copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, and remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially. But the new symbol that is added creates a new restriction.
The ShareAlike symbol means that you can transform and build upon the design, but you must distibute it under the same license as the original one.
3. Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0)
With this license you can copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format and remix, transform, and build upon the material. But there is also a new symbol that adds a new restriction.
With the NonCommercial symbol, you are not allowed to use the design for commercial purposes.
4. Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0)
With this one we now combine the NonCommercial symbol and the ShareAlike symbol. Meaning we can transform, edit, copy and redistribute the material but we must use the same license as in the original and it can't be used commercially.
5. Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-ND 4.0)
Here, we can copy and redistribute the material in any and even use it for ommercial purposes. But with the new symbol added on...
The NoDerivatives symbol adds the restriction that, by no means, remix, transform, or build upon the original design.
6. Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)
Here, we can copy and redistribute the design, but we cannot use it for any commercial purposes, and we can not remix, transform, or build upon the design.
Here, I'm going to choose the Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license as I want people to use and build upon my design, but I do not want anyone using it for commercial purposes.
I have been having fun with my project so far and I now have an idea of what direction I will go for licensing. Below you can see both presentation.png and presentation.mp4
I really like how the design is coming out so far!
