Automata (pronounced aw-TOM-ah-tah) are mechanical figures or scenes made out of mechanical parts that
produce responses to the figures that make them move.
Automata come in a vast range of sizes and varying degrees of complexity. My desire is to incorporate motion detection,
replace cranks with motors, add LEDs, sound, etc.
Where do I start? This check list gives some simple suggestions against which to test my ideas.
- Is it visually exciting?
- Is it funny?
- Will it intrigue the viewer?
- Will it hold the viewers attention for at least a minute?
- Is it too complex?
- Is the humor to obscure?
- Will I enjoy making it?
