about me

Final Project showcase!!!

This is the last stage of my final project where I will be putting together everything that I did in my previous pages and then combine it into my final project!

system integration

In the previous page we went about finishing up with all encloser and also finished up with the electronics and then the programming bit. Now all that is left is to put it all together and then see if it is working or not.
Now lets get into first assembling our encloser.

With all of the encloser printed in the last week, we simply have to to put it all together with the help of the twist lock and then also be able to put all my components inside the encloser. The encloser should be able to withstand the outside environment for extended periods of time and then should also be very portable and then also be really durable.
Next I just wanted for my project to be more aesthetic therefore I decided to have a sticker design printed and then pasted on my final project. Therefore I need to first get into designing and then cut out my design.
Firstly I simply just created the design I wanted to cut using inkscape.

I next used the vinyl cutter to cut out my design.
After the cutting finished, I went through the process of weeding and then pasted the cut out to my encloser.

The cut out went well and also complimented the white encloser of my project.
With that my final project has been completed. Whoa.... I cant believe that the fab academy is about to end. What a journey it has been! my project has been completed but there is still a lot I need to improve on. With that I also want to create more of these little farm guardians! But for now I think this should be enough.

Reflection

What was planed vs what actually happened
WOW the fab academy is now nearing its very end! I really hope am thankful to this learning program as through this was I able to learn a whole bunch of new things. But without further a do let's go to doing my final project reflection. Firstly lets go over what was planed at first and then what happened at the end! looking back I am astonished with how much progress I was able to make! I went from a bulky cylinder displaying its value through an LCD to a device way more compact, durable, efficient and also a device that can send the data it receives over a distance through the use of wireless connection. Lord how much I have improved my project! Visit this link to see my first design --> Final project first design

what tasks have been completed?

For my final project, most of what I envisioned for my project has been completed and I am fairly surprised with the results. Although not everything went to what was planned, I was still able to make update and change to my final project that ultimately helped me to complete this project. If you were all with me through my journey, you might have seen how my project changed over time, from a big cylinder to a compact node.

what tasks remain?

With most of my project completed, I still have the node and hub concept to take into action and then also have to fabricate it. I have complete the most complicated part which is to create the nodes for the hub to receive data from. All I have left is to to create a sort of hub that I able to funnel in all the data form the nodes. It could be a simple web server that is able to receive data form all the nodes. Or rather a receiver that is able to receive all the data and then directly send it to yor device to understand the data.

what has worked? what hasn’t?

from everything that I did, most of the things I wanted for the farm guardian has been completed. But one thing still remain. I really wanted to have very precise measuring form my farm guardian. But for that I needed to have an npk sensor which is a sensor which is able sense the nutrients in the soil to give a better idea on it health. Sadly though I wasn't able to get the NPK sensor as it was really expensive and also take way too much space. for which I had to scrape it.

what questions need to be resolved?

some questions that need to be resolved are: this is a question that was asked to me by my instructor asking about how fast will the solar panel charge my project? Although the solar panel is able to charge the battery, but it isn't able to fully charge the project. With the solar panel it is able to slow down the battery drainage. Currently it has been able to survive for more that 5 hour and could even last longer.

what will happen when?

what I want for this project in the future is for people to be able to know about it and use for their own purpose. It could be able to watch over a farmers field or even be stationed in potted plants of a person house to monitor their health. For this I first intend to show this project to my parents and then also be able to get their feedback on my project.

what have you learned?

I dont even know where to begin taking about this question. To give you a reference, I didn't know how to use any of the machine in the fab lab before attending the course. Now though I have gone through a journey of a life time and then was able to learn many different thing from it. Form using to machine to creating one yourself.going through the processes of designing and then fabricating. I really have been able to create almost anything using the fab lab. But their is something that been taught to me by this school. It is to be a life long learner and that is what I will be. Even though I have learned a lot during my time attending the fab academy course, I still cannot be considered a master in any of the fields that I have been able to learn about! For that I still must thrive to learn on and then comprehend more about the fab lab.

Lastly I really wanted to say thanks. To the fab foundation, Neil and all the people who worked behind the scene to make the fab academy course come forward into reality and be functional. The beautiful commuinity that always seeks to help one another for no reason for oneself. My instructors, firstly Rico Sir, who has been a becon of hope and guidance for me through out the fab academy course. Helping me when I am in need of help and reassuring me when I am stressing out. My global evaluator, Jorge Valerio for evaluating upon my documentation and then giving suggestions to complete them. My local instructor and local evaluator, Anith Sir, who was always there to help me through the hardships I faced to not only balance my school life but also to balance my fab academy life. Lastly but not in any way the least, thank you to my friends on helping me on this incredible journey! Thank you to all of you, your the best!
