Machine building

We tried to create an automatic drawing machine using a CoreXY mechanism. Something similar has been tried in our lab in 2018; we tried a different layout for our design.

Time was of the essence, for we had less than the standard 2 weeks of time for our machine project: this year our University has closed all the premises for one whole week during the Easter.

We decided to split the work, with Costanza doing the design (individual site link), and Christophe working on the electronics (individual site link).

We printed all the components and tried to assemble everything. Printer bed

Stepper support

A couple of parts warped during the print, so we tried to fix them by hand, while waiting for a new print: Stepper supportStepper support

At the end we got all set: Stepper supportStepper support

And we tried to send a Gcode we obtained from Inkscape, using Gsender: Gcode

But, alas, our machine didn't work as planned!!

We changed some settings in GRBL (we lowered the acceleration and the feed rate for both axis, and the situation improved a tiny bit:

The motors stall and they can't properly drive the axis. After a closer examination we concluded that the 4 pulley hosted by the center piece can't move freely, thus blocking the whole machine: Gcode We plan to rework the central piece, swapping the toothed pulleys for smooth ones, and to leave more room for the the belt to engage them.
