5. 3D Scanning and printing

Weekly Summary

  • Design 3d subtractive object and printing with Prusa i3 MK3
  • Using 3D scan app (Qlone, SCANN3D)

Assignments

group assignment:

  • test the design rules for your 3D printer(s)-

individual assignment:

  • design and 3D print an object (small, few cm3, limited by printer time), that could not be made subtractively

  • 3D scan an object (and optionally print it)

Kamakura Group Assignment Week05

Individual Assignment

Subtractive 3D design and print

Create a Torus with 75mm Inner Diameter and 15mm Torus Diameter.

2 more copy and past.

Create a 35mm Diameter of Sphere.

Try simulation.

Right click on the Bodies folder > Create Components from Bodies

ASSEMBLE > Enable Contact Sets

Right click on the Contact: sets > New Contact Set

Select all object.

Ball stack in the ring

But It came off with 3 rings.

So added one more rings.

4th ring is 80mm Inner Diameter and 8mm Torus Diameter.

Get a G-cord from PrusaSlicer

I downloaded “Windows Drivers & Apps Package Full Installer”

Open the app > Setting as follows:

Export G-cord as follows;

Print settings : 0.20mm QUALITY

Filament : Prusament PETG

Printer : Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3S+ MMU2S Single

Infill : 10%

Click the right icon to “Add/Remove presets” for Printer

I selected “Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3S+ MMU2S”.

But “Original Prusa i3 MK3S & MK3S+” was right.

So you can see this warning later. Bit it was okay…

Get 3D object

Set the G-cord following the Group Assignment.

It took around 5 hours.

Let’s take a support material.

It broken…

And the ball is attached to the ring.

I changed the thin ring to 78mm Inner Diameter and 10mm Torus Diameter.

And try out again

It took off the ball of support material at working.

I stick with dabble side tape and continue printing.

And really last minutes, filament wheel was stacked. so I cut them.

Overall, It was enough to finish it.

Let’s take a support material again.

Ball came off when I move the rings…(TT)

I think I should make ellipse ring and more thicker…

3D scan an object

I found interesting 2 app in Android.

Qlone

It was good for objects.

I downloaded the sheet from here

Scanning whole blue dorm is open

It is pretty good result.

But you need to pay($19ish) to export the 3D files.

My collage(Atsufumi Suzuki) bought it!!

So I can exported STL file. I imported it to Blender.

I can see that. But Blender issue is too big size…44.6098m!!!!

You can find some fun one thought. He walked!!!!!!

I tried another app too.

SCANN3D

I think It is good for space.

I took 20 photos of nose. You can see the Green points, it’s the guide for scanning.

It is good result too.

But it also need to pay to export the 3D files.

So I didn’t pay for it…

03.17.2022

I tried to make different shape of 3D object. Hope the ball doesn’t come out!!

Add “Center Rectangle”

Add small rectangle

Add the fillet on the corners

Change “fillet_in” to 9mm.

Expand to thick.

Fillet the corner to make looking good.

Turn to 90 degree.

Because it might be able to less support material.

Copy and Paste 2 more loops

Add sphere

Looks too much space around ball.

Change to

sphere : 33mm

thick : 20mm

Export with “.slt”

It might take 1h59min

Less support material!!

Looks nice but bit loose.

The ball might come out if you push it harder…

03.21.2022

Tried ver3!!

more thicker and big ball.

sphere : 35mm

thick : 23mm

I wanted to try out with PLA. Because some instructors told me, it is strong one compare to PETG and ASA.

It might take 1h44min.

Looks great and not come out the ball even push harder!!

So It is difficult to make subtractively, because a ball is inside and loops are entangled!!

What I learned

3D printer is pretty sensitive. You should check while printing if you can.

My 3D design of object was experimental especially ball part. so 3D printer is good for prototyping.

Scanner is good result than I expected. And Animation thing was fun.
