18/2/2015 // Computer Controlled Cutting //

I started this project from a simple doodle I made in my sketchbook; I wanted to make something that was simple and fun.
I took the sketch and transformed it into vectors using Inkscape and then cut the first model.

Making

After making the first model I continued the with the design of the animals.

To make sure that the design will fit the material I made two testers with five different sizes of slots.
Once they were done I adjusted the slots in Inkscape.

I wanted something people could play with and so I made two sizes of animals.
For the lion and the giraffe I used a smaller size and for the elephant and the rhino a big size.
This allows the user to assemble the legs of a giraffe on a lion and so on.

Wanna make some animals? Here are DXF+SVG files you can use. The 1mm I used for cardboard and the 5mm for thicker materials all though it wasn't as good as I imagined it would be.
