01 Final Project Proposal
THE PROJECT
For my project I would like to design and build a Cabaret Mechatronic Movement (CMM). My CMM would build on the idea of Cabaret Mechanical Movements with added electronic sensing and control.

A quote from the Cabaret Mechanical Movement website: Making Automata is hard. Making other sorts of three dimensional objects can also be hard, but the extra dimension of movement seems to add a disproportionate amount of difficulty.
For most people, especially those untrained in engineering skills, getting to the point where making mechanical devices is easy, can be a long and frustrating task.
To the right is an example of a microprocessor controlled mechanical contraption. A LEGO Mindstorms microprocessor is providing the programming that allows the contraption to function as a clock. The Mindstorms microprocessor is relatively expensive (>$100).
To the left is a picture of the carousel that needs repair and FAB Lab based additions. I plan to rebuild the carousel and then add music and lights under sensor control. In addition I may try to do something with a ticket booth.
