8. Computer controlled machining¶
Group assignment: Test runout, alignment, speeds, feeds, and toolpaths for your machine¶
We use the Shopbot Desktop milling machine
To use the milling machine Vcarve is used.
We chose squares to do our test.
You must then open the toolpaths on the right of the screen to modify the parameters and adjust them.
For some parameters like the number of passes we need the help of a site that allows us to define our tools their size of our material thickness ect … and give us the values used for a fast and efficient cutting
We then need to set the zero point of the three axes X Y Z using the software.
Cutting :
We made 4 cuts and encountered some problems , 1 cut from the inside and 3 cut from the outside
The problem was that the cutter was not deep enough in the chuck, that the shopbot was badly adjusted because of many uses. So our cut was not beautiful and not successful
