6. 3D Scanning and printing

Group Assignment: Review the safety data sheets for each of your molding and casting materials, then make and compare test casts with each of them

Individual Assignment: Design a 3D mold around the stock and tooling that you’ll be using, mill it, and use it to cast part. 3D scan an object (and optionally print it)

Project TEST: (Test printers and their capabilities)

Materials: We have some materials here and many more in another storage

3D Printer: We have three different 3D printers here

2 Ultimaker 3

1 Ultimaker Extended

2 Formlabs

Group Assignment:

So we use the Test file “3D Printer Tolerance Test” that we find in the Schedule or on https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:636363

We use CURA to start and adjust the print:

We use the Ultimaker 3 and PLA for the Test

Here is the result:

Individual Assignment:

I made a simple 3D printable object (useless thing just for train myself)

But it was a fail cause i do not verify , there was not enought material and I wanted to make an object too big for no reason

So i made a smaller try this time, the result is good for the top but the bottom of my sphere had some problems because I did not raise it compared to the plate of impression

Bottom without base

3D Scanning:

To begin, you need to install the software related to the 3D scanner (3D System Sense , careful “mozilla firefox” can not access this site)

Unfortunately the software did not work it did not recognize the scanner.

After several tests we still found the solution to the problem but with some nuances: it is necessary to launch the software without having to connect the scanner to arrive until the moment must scan an object or other, and then connect the scanner normally image appears just wait ten seconds to check that everything is fine because sometimes it does not work and you must start the manipulation from the beginning.

The scanner that I use

Operation: To scan an object just turn around slowly and listen to the software and display messages on the screen that asks us to either; to stop or go back because he lost the object of view. The object must be on a flat surface clear and do not move during the scan.

My first scan after learning the basics was to scan me myself so I ask for help, and here are the results

I can see that the scanner / software does not like the hair at all and even less movements because I did not move during the scan but I smiled because it was pretty funny and the result shows it.

I then used the filling function and here is the result

Project TEST:

I find a file i want to make so i choose Mercy from the Overwatch Game

This one take 8 hours aproximatly

Here is the result:

Need to cut with a Tongs

Unfortunately I had some problems when cutting, some parts being too fragile they are broken

I decided to redo it with this time a larger size and a cut more neat
