Rangbheru - Your Festive Companion in Color

This presentation summarizes the complete development of Rangbheru, from concept and fabrication to embedded electronics, mobile application, and wireless communication. It highlights the project's objective of blending traditional Indian embroidery with modern digital fabrication and wearable technology.

📐 Fabric Cutting

The waistcoat panels were digitally drafted and cut using the Zünd CNC cutting machine.

✏️ Embroidery CNC Work

Traditional embroidery patterns were made using the Brother SE2000 embroidery machine. The CNC embroidery machine automatically stitches the traditional design with high positional accuracy before electronics integration.

🛠 Embroidery Neopixels

A custom NeoPixel modules were designed specifically for embroidery integration. Their circular shape allows each module to blend naturally with the embroidered floral patterns while remaining individually replaceable. Every PCB contains a WS2812B RGB LED, capacitor, and conductive thread pads for easy integration into the textile.

🛠 Stitching Embroidery Neopixels

Each PCB was stitched onto the embroidered flower using conductive thread. Every connection was verified with a multimeter before proceeding to the next module. The electronic modules were stitched onto the embroidered flowers, securely fixing both the PCB and electrical connections.

🛠 Electronics

The wearable controller combines sensing, wireless communication, audio processing, and user interaction into a compact custom PCB based on the Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32S3. The complete electronic design integrates BLE, LoRa, OLED display, microphone, magnetometer, buzzer, battery charging, and NeoPixel interface.

The controller board (two layer PCB) was manufactured using PCB milling, followed by drilling, board flipping, and milling of the second copper layer.

The assembled hardware integrates the XIAO ESP32S3, LoRa module, OLED display, microphone, magnetometer, battery connector, and piezo buzzer.

🛠 3D Modeling and Assembly

A compact enclosure was designed in Fusion 360 to house all electronic components while keeping the device lightweight, wearable, and easy to assemble. The internal layout was carefully arranged to accommodate the battery, OLED display, PCB, buzzer, and wiring inside a compact enclosure.

All mechanical, electrical, and 3D printed components were integrated into the compact wearable controller enclosure.

Final hardware assembly

The finished waistcoat combines traditional embroidery with embedded electronics to create an interactive garment for Navratri celebrations.

📱 Mobile Application

The custom application communicates with the wearable over Bluetooth Low Energy, allowing real-time control of colours, brightness, aura effects, and audio-reactive modes.

BLE Mobile Application

📡 LoRa-Meshtastic

Rangbheru uses Meshtastic over LoRa to provide off-grid communication between wearable devices. Even when mobile networks are unavailable, users can exchange messages and locate nearby friends. Each wearable communicates with the mobile application through BLE while exchanging long-range data over the LoRa mesh network.
