9. OUTPUT DEVICES

Group assignment:

  • Measure the power consumption of an output device.

To see our group assignment click here

Individual assignment:

  • Add an output device to a microcontroller board you’ve designed and program it to do something.

LCD sreen

A 1.44” TFT LCD with SPI interface and 128x128 resolution is a type of thin-film liquid crystal display that uses a serial peripheral interface (SPI) for communication and has a resolution of 128 pixels per row and 128 pixels per column.

PROGAMMING

We used the arduino IDE software for our programs.

SERVOMOTOR

To use the servo-motor we have followed the wiring below. Connect the black wire to GND, the red wire to VCC and the yellow wire for the signal to terminal 18 on our circuit board.

A servomotor is a mechanical device used to precisely control the position of an object. The ESP32 is a popular microcontroller used in the development of electronic projects. When you combine a servomotor with an ESP32, you can create interactive projects and control the position of an object according to data received by the ESP32.

Servomotors can be controlled using pulse width modulation (PWM) signals generated by the ESP32. This enables the precise position of the servomotor to be defined, making it ideal for robotics, home automation and automation projects.

PROGRAMMING

We used the arduino IDE software for our programs.

PIN

  • servoPin = 18

      #include

Servo myservo; // create servo object to control a servo
// 16 servo objects can be created on the ESP32

int pos = 0; // variable to store the servo position
// Recommended PWM GPIO pins on the ESP32 include 2,4,12-19,21-23,25-27,32-33
// Possible PWM GPIO pins on the ESP32-S2: 0(used by on-board button),1-17,18(used by on-board LED),19-21,26,33-42
#if defined(ARDUINO_ESP32S2_DEV)
int servoPin = 16;
#else
int servoPin = 18;
#endif

void setup() {
    // Allow allocation of all timers
    ESP32PWM::allocateTimer(0);
    ESP32PWM::allocateTimer(1);
    ESP32PWM::allocateTimer(2);
    ESP32PWM::allocateTimer(3);
    myservo.setPeriodHertz(50);    // standard 50 hz servo
    myservo.attach(servoPin, 1000, 2000); // attaches the servo on pin 18 to the servo object
    // using default min/max of 1000us and 2000us
    // different servos may require different min/max settings
    // for an accurate 0 to 180 sweep
}

void loop() {

    for (pos = 0; pos <= 180; pos += 1) { // goes from 0 degrees to 180 degrees
        // in steps of 1 degree
        myservo.write(pos); // tell servo to go to position in variable 'pos'
        delay(15); // waits 15ms for the servo to reach the position
    }
    for (pos = 180; pos >= 0; pos -= 1) { // goes from 180 degrees to 0 degrees
        myservo.write(pos); // tell servo to go to position in variable 'pos'
        delay(15); // waits 15ms for the servo to reach the position
    }
}

Oupps!!!

as you can see in the video, the servo doesn’t rotate up to 180°. the servomotor certainly has min/max parameters and we missed them! 😞😞__ Never mind, before you download the code, set the following parameters : myservo.attach(servoPin, 700, 2200)
