8. Computer controlled machining

After a few weeks of not being able to consistently work on fab academy, my internship finally ended. So now I can spend time again on it. So first thing i did was sit together with my instructor, and we had a talk about alot of the stuff that i still needed to do.

Inspiration

I wanted to design a clock that could be expanded into a bigger piece if i wanted to. I was inspired by the Clocks of Leendert Prins.

I also found some 3dfiles and based myself on that.

Getting to work

I first tried recreating the gears with the render=>gears but after creating the files the teacher informed me that the teeth would be way to small to easily cut. So i went back to my files and used a geargenerator to find a gear pattern that had the same ratio, but would still be easily cut out.

And then tried to cut a testpiece, we had a bit of trouble actually getting the cnc to work(forgot to turn it on). but as you can see i forgot to tack it down. The outer edge did cut, but the inner bit did not go that well.
