Week17, whats next?
Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income, that is what we think about this week
Wednesday Global Class
Neil explained different assets of the follow-up for this product development and showed how to start working on that.
Weekly Assignment
In my own words
Individual assignments: work out a plan for the follow up on this project, show under what rights you want to work and make sure you can upload a video and a slide in the right size and format on the roght place in your website-directory
plan for my product
I have no commercial plan with my product, I really want this product for my own personal need and I hope that it will help my worms to survive in troublesome times. I especially chose this project because I am very interested in the fact that a fab-lab is the place to make products that are not based on the commercial exploitation and need a large market to be produced for. I love it that it is possible to make an electronic product that is only needed by one person and her 500 worms. and that person is me. So as long as I have a working product and I can keep my 500 worms alive I am perfectly happy.
Licencing
I looked into creative commons licencing and since I am not planning to use this product in a commercial way I am very willing to share it, but also only to people that will not use it in a commercial way. Creative Commons has a good overview of choosing the right licence for what you want to share. there are 2 things that you have to choose:
It was easy to choose, I don't want people to run away with my idea and make it commercial and I would like people that alter the idea not sharing it in such a way that my idea will be used commercially.
Based on my choices it came to:
'Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).'
This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
slide and video
Together with the other people using Hugo we worked out that the right place for putting up our slide and video is not directly the root directory. It will go to the Gitlab repository but won't show up on the website that way. It will work when it is in the 'static'-folder in the root-directory. That way Hugo will build it on the site and puts it in the root-directory. I found that it is hard to make a relative link to that folder, (because Hugo will try and play with that as well, it wants you to use the imagesfolder within the static folder) so here are the absolute links to that,

Learnings this week
It is good to think about the licencing, for me it is not the most important to keep working with this product, but it is interesting to learn about the licences and choose the fitting one.:
- Figuring out the right spot for the video and slide was quite a team-effort and not as easy as we thought at first.
- It seems weird that we will make a 1060P-video with such a low quality, it would be nice if there was a little explanation about the reason for that.
- It is a good week to work har don my final project, you can see all that process in the final project page
