Task required

As a group assignment, we assigned to design a machine that includes: mechanism, actuation, and automation. We should build the mechanical parts and operate it manually.

Group's idea

We decided to make Kandora cutting machine. Kandora: males traditional clothes in Arba Gulf. There are clothing machines which cut the textile by fixing it on a table then cut by moving the material under the blade manually. We would like to make an advance machine which receives dimensions as G-code then cut automatically in order to achieve an accurate result in a short time.

What I did?

My contribution in this assignment:

  1. Make threads in the Aluminum profiles.
  2. Design and laser cut core xy-axis.
  3. Design and laser cut supports for the pulleys.
  4. Cooperate in assemblying the mechanical machine.

Procedure:

The first and most important step after having an idea for making anything is computer-aided design (CAD). There are some parts designs are downloaded free from Grab cad website like screws, nuts, and stepper motor. Then the design completed depending on the available items and appropriate ones like the size of the motor’s shaft, pulleys, wheels, and belt. Profiles for the frame as well. The figure below summarize my cooperation in preparing the design.


Threads in the Aluminum profiles

An inner threads made to allow the screws inter well. These threads are required to attach core xy-axis that will be explained later. The following figure summarize this task.

In order to achieve a movement in x and y-axis. There should be wheels attached to the frame. The figures below show the mechanism made.




Support for the belt.

Four supports had been designed and made by laser cut acrylic in order to attach the belt.




Cooperate in assemblying the mechanical machine.
