mechanical design, machine design

The project this week was to create a group machine. My specific role was to mill and solder the straight through serial cables with two, 5-wire PCBs that were sandwiched together to create a 2x5 connector. These Gestalt node-connecting cables were the same on either end. My other major responsibilities were to set up the machine in our makeshift darkroom (the bathroom) as well as continual testing of exposure times to alter the program LED on/off times.

A full write-up of our project can be found on classmate Jill Hartley-Yokota’s websiteas she documented our process.
It was incredibly freeing to not stop and document as I went along, knowing that someone else in class was. I was grateful to not have to focus on this piece, especially in the very thorough hands of Jill.
