0. About Me

natpic

After studying Human Computer Interface psychology, I worked as a systems analyst in a bank, worked as a junior graphic designer in the music industry then in 1993 I did the first Interactive Multimedia MA in the UK at the RCA. I designed interfaces for spaceships in Hollywood movies, created CD Roms, digital art installations and websites and ran my own design studio, Airside, for 14 years until 2012.

I worked in design research and education at the RSA for the last 3 years and became interested in the global rise of FabLabs and Makerspaces. Our project The Great Recovery partnered with Fab Lab London when it opened in September 2014, at which point I realised that I needed to do some hands on making again and enrolled in Fab Academy.

I am particularly interested in:

  • The application of design skills for positive social and environmental impact (e.g. The RSA Student Design Awards).
  • The role of design in moving us towards a circular economy (e.g. The Great Recovery).
  • The importance of Makerspaces and Making. Creating a circular economy culture within a Makespace. The role of Makespaces in the future of manufacturing. (e.g. RCA Future Makespaces in Redistributed Manufacturing,  Nesta Makerspace Open Data )
  • Fixing and repair (e.g. Fixperts, iFixit, The Restart Project).

    Hi David

Sorry for my slow reply – thanks for your comment!

I created the chamfer shape by drawing a rectangle, then drawing a square, turning it by 45 degrees, positioning it at the neck of the rectangle then joining the two shapes.

Hope that helps and see you over a video link soon!

    Nat
