Final project: individual wardrobe for fablab

What's the goal?

My final project will be an individual wardrobe with smart unlocker system (using RFID or Bluetooth). The motivation for this project is my desire to automate all process in my fablab. After this project I'll visit Happy Lab for inspiration and make automate system for hand tools. :) Also I have an idea to design after the Fab Academy expansions so second wardrobe in row will use one side of the first, third - side of the second, etc.:

It should work like this: when the wardrobe is closed - bring you id-card (based on RFID) to it. RFID card of the wardrobe's owner will open it using stepper motor. After the opening when you want to close wardrobe - just push the door - button (step end) will be pressed and stepper motor will lock the wardrobe.

Precessors

I found that before me only two people during Fab Academy (Diazdeleon Alejandra and Meier Ferdinand) made their own wardrobe. To be honest my project didn't far away from box with RFID-unlocker.

Materials and components

I'll use plywood to make a skeleton of wardrobe; microcontroller, transistor, coil and RFID-reader to make unlock system. Also I'll need some screws, batteries and wires. All parts I can buy in my city or made by myself. Total cost of parts is about ~$85 ($60+$5+$10+$10). Everything except RFID-reader and RFID-card will be made by my own. In case of time limit I'll make shield for Arduino or Galileo instead of plate with controller and transistor for coil.

Schedule of the project:
  1. Gathering of materials (30.05)
  2. Machining of the skeleton (31.05)
  3. Designing and machining of the electronic plate and testing (05.06)
  4. Assembly (07.06)
  5. Designing and printing of connectors (09.06)
  6. Final assembly and testing (12.06)
Electronics is the most complex part of the project for me - I took it into account in the schedule. I'll make a shield for Intel Galileo, transistor and RFID-reader. I already designed a skeleton of the wardrobe based on my box creator project:

Documentation

I used my box creator to make design of the wardrobe and Solidworks for final processing:

Also I designed in SolidWorks some holders of locking system. Than I used Eagle to make a scheme and electronic plate which connects stepper motor, RFID-reader, button and Intel Galileo:
I programmed controller to open lock if the right RFID-card was read and close if the stop end pressed. Processed were used:
I presented and tested wardrobe 26th of June at the final presentation of the School of Fab Lab Polytech which were devoted to Internet of Things so my next step is to implement online controlling of the wardrobe.
