WEEK 3 Computer Controlled Cutting

Slot test for the 3mm birch ply. Left to right 2.9mm 3.0mm then 3.2mm
all with the chamfered entry.Due to the kerf of the laser being 0.25mm
and as I ran the job as a PNG file through fab modules
I made the slots 2.6mm because the laser follows along the outside
of the black sections on your design file and if you take into consideration
either side of the slot that the laser passes thats equal to 0.5mm add that
to the 2.6mm from before and the slot width is now 3.1mm
I have designed this with the intention of getting a lampshade
from one piece of 600mm x 300mm 3mm ply

It was quite tricky to get the shade assembled, the slot test resulted in a good connection but when you have 32 slots that are all dependant

on each for a good fit, they do start to conflict. If Iwas to do it again I think I would leave a few more thousands of a mm for go measure.

Another ingredient would be a candle stick this rub along the slot lines where the pieces of wood are in direct contact this eases the friction.
