Computer Aided Design
The last few classes we have been learning how to create designs using free, open source software. We have been using Inkscape to draw vector graphics, and then using the vinyl cutter to make them come to life and make stickers from them. It is pretty simple, and lots of fun!
I have made quite afew stickers, but my favorite one is the one I spent the most time on; a chairlift. I first started from a picture I took one day while skiing. I imported it into inkscape, and used the trace bitmap function to vectorize the image. Once vectorized, I had to do extensive editing to get it to actually look how I wanted it to look. After a few hours, I cut it on the laser cutter, and then applied it to my computer. Here is a picture of the design file:
