Individual Assignment

For this week's individual assignment I have worked on planning my Final project in a more thoroughly way. I have explained what it will do and how I will achieve my final goal. My final project will include, substractive manufacturing (milling the PCB), additive manufacturing (case for the glasses) and electronics/input&output devices/interface/communication (microcontroller/buttons/etc.) In this page I will be answering some questions:

What will it do?

It will be bring artifically augmented reality to everyday ordinary consumer market. It will be an electronic device that inputs/outputs, stores and processes data according to the instructions given by the user.
- Display Messages and images
- Take in 3D Acceleration & Gyro Data
- Take in 3 inputs: right, left, enter

Who's done what beforehand?

This will be a masic model of XR glasses. Big Firms and individual enthusiasts have tried multiple ways of achieving this wearable technology.
- Google Smart Glasses (Unlike mine Google's smart glasses uses mirrors and an extarior glass to display the items to the user)
- Sony AR Glasses
- Arduglasses

What will you design?

I will be desigining the PCB, the code, the CAD design of the Glasses, the software, where everything will go. Essentially I will design everything.

What materials and components will be used?

- Generic PLA (White) for the exterior Casting
- PCB for the board
- ATmega32u4 or ATtiny3216 as the microcontroller
- Transparent OLED Displays as the displays and the glass in the glasses
- Accelerometer for calculating the 3D acceleration and Gryo
- Li-ion battery
- 3 buttons
- Li-ion Charger

Where will come from?

The items will come from variety of different firms and places. As location they will all come from US. The micro controllers will come from Digikey. The Transparent OLED and 24 pin 0.5 Pitch connector will come from Crystalfontz. The PLA and the Board will be found in our lab. The buttons and charging module and 3D Accelerometer & Gyro are also from Digikey.

How much will they cost?

In total everything will cost around $200. This is a really elloborate and expensive project. However, it has a lot of potential and can be used for adding more upgrades to it since it will have upgradable parts.

What parts and systems will be made?

I will be designing the Exterior PLA Casing, the PCB electronics layout. I will also be planning how the earing part of the glasses and the front part will connect to eachother. I will be writing the program and interface. I will also be interfacing 3rd party modules such as the charger and the 3D Accelerometer and the Gyro.

What processes will be used?

- 3D printing
- PCB Precision Milling
- Electronics Layout
- Programming
- Wiring

What questions need to be answered?

- How will I be able to connect the earing part to the front part of the glasses?
- How to make my own 24 pin OLED to I2C converter?
- (Maybe) How to make my own Li-ion Charging module
- How to make the interface between the computer and the Glasses
- How to make the onboard interface for the user.

How will it be evaluated?

To this Fab Academy Journey I have started with really big goals, however, as time passed I started thinking in realistic terms. I have decided that to prove that my consept even works. I need to have something that looks like glasses with 2 Transparent OLED in the place of glass in the glasses and display the data from the accelerometer.
