FINAL PROJECT OF FAB ACADEMY 2023: COLOR VOICE GLOVE (Color Recognition Glove with Voice Feedback)

Historical Context

In the context of this project, it is important to highlight the relevance and impact it can have on the lives of visually impaired individuals and/or individuals with color blindness. According to studies conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics, it is estimated that there are currently 801,000 people in Peru who have difficulties in seeing or have permanent visual impairments or suffer from some form of visual condition such as color blindness.

You can continue reading the article here:

These individuals often face daily challenges in their everyday lives, whether it is recognizing colors, identifying objects, or safely navigating their environment. The development of technological solutions like our color recognition glove can provide them with greater autonomy and improve their quality of life.

Our goal with this project is to contribute to the inclusion and well-being of these individuals by providing a practical and accessible tool that allows them to recognize colors and receive real-time voice feedback. With this innovative solution, we hope to facilitate their interaction with the environment and provide them with greater independence in their daily lives. Regenerate response

So I asked myself a question: how can I contribute to their life?, and on the other hand, the passage of my life through the Early Childhood Education classrooms made me think: What can I contribute to children who have this visual difficulty or to children and/or people who have color blindness? How can we bring technology to them and make it a support in their lives, a solution?

Looking at my life and getting inspired to make this prototype remembering my brother Jaime who has a visual disability. So I asked myself a question: how can I contribute to their life? And on the other hand, the passage of my life in Early Childhood Education classrooms made me think: What can I contribute to children who have this visual difficulty or to children and /or colorblind people? How can we bring technology closer to them and turn it into a support in their lives, a solution?

Possible week layout:

I started to think and do some research, I made a table with some possible tasks that I have done during the weeks to help me work on my final project.

Project steps:

Document a capstone project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered.

What does it do?

In this project, I have developed a color recognition glove that utilizes the TCS3200 color sensor and the Seeed Xiao RP2040 microcontroller. The main objective was to create a portable system that allows for color recognition and provides real-time voice feedback through the MP3-TF-16P Mini MP3 Player Module and an 8-ohm 1/2-watt speaker.

Who's done what beforehand?

Investigating between the projects to see who or how used the color sensors and the projects to recognize color.

Mechanical and Machine Design Week 15 link:

This week they created a color-based M&M candy sorting machine.

Final color project. link:

This project uses a color sensor board that sits on and displays the hexadecimal number on a six-digit display.

14. Networks and communications link:

What they made is a color sensor that forwards the RGB value and displays it on an OLED

Machine Layout link:

Here they created a machine to classify colors and store them in different containers.

What did you design?

I will design a glove with a color sensor and a speaker so that it can reproduce the colors it recognizes by voice.

What materials and components were used? Where did they come from? How much did they cost?

The electronic components were purchased from electronic stores, where I bought them at reasonable prices.

What parts and systems were made?

They are in process:

  • Electronic board
  • 3D printed boxes
  • Glove
  • What processes were used?

The goal is for the glove to recognize colors and a speaker to be able to mention the recognized colors by voice.

    Electronics:

I am making the schematic of the board for the Xiao RP 2040 where the TCS3200 color sensor and the mp3 mini player will be connected.

    Programming:

I keep looking at which programming code is best for the Xiao RP2040 and that it works because as you can see, this microcontroller is new and it's giving me a hard time hahaha.

    3d print:

In this part I have created two little boxes that will house the color sensor and the other larger one that will be the board with the Xiao RP2040 and the DFPlayer mp3 module.
