Week 16 - Applications and Implications

Assignment: propose a final project that intergrates the range of units covered:

1. WHAT WILL I DO?

I will make a device that transforms data from space in to an audible signal that people can hear. The device will be in a form of an old phone. The data will be live from the sun. The plan is to use the solar wind which are mesured in Km/sec

2. Who's done what beforehand?

There are a lot of projects out there that take data and transform them in all sort of visable signals for humans. Combining it with a phone is not something I have seen before although it has most likely been done by someone

3. What materials and components will be required?

For the phone box I am going to use a 12mm plywood. I plan to 3D print the hearing receiver and button frame. The button itself has been casted. I want to have metal bells but to begin with I will 3d print them. The plan is to be able to strap the box to a pole with the rails made out of composites. I will use black plexy to make a stand for the receiver. For the electronics I will have two input boards, a button and magnetic sensor. I will have one output board with a speaker. At first I planned to run the master program from my lap top, it will talk to the mcu through serial networking.

4. Where will they come from?

Everything exists in the local lab inventory except for the composites, I had to go to Reykjavík to do that assignment.

5. How much will it cost?

estimated cost is 142$ with that material there will be some left overs to make more. so the project cost is abought 50$

  • plywood sheet: 47$
  • 3D filament: 20$
  • molding and casting: 20$
  • electronics: 40$
  • Acril 30*60cm: 15$
  • 6. What parts and systems will be made?

Most of the parts for the assignment will be made in the lab.

    7. What processes will be used?

I will be combining processes that I have been learning troughout the weeks.

8 What tasks need to be completed?

There is a lot of programming that needs to be completed and some 3D prints.

    9. What questions need to be answered?

Nothing specific that comes to mind but I am sure that there will be some questions that are unknown at this point.

    10. What is the schedule?

The schedule is to work on the programming. I will then travel to Reykjavík to assembly and finish the project. Before I go to Reykjavík I am going to finish everything that needs to be 3d printed.

    11. How will it be evaluated?

Right now I am keeping a list of task that rate form 0% to 100% when every task is at 100% the project will be presanteble
