HELLO WORLD!

My name is Jadayne Smith, and I am a graduate of Florida International University with a Master of Architecture. I currently work as a FabLab Educator at Moonlighter FabLab, which is where I first learned about Fab Academy. Joining this year’s cohort is incredibly exciting for me, as I have been intentionally seeking opportunities to learn new technologies and expand my skill set. Not long ago, I had never seen a 3D printer, laser cutter, or CNC machine and I didn’t even know FabLabs existed.

Previous work

I began my career as an Architectural Assistant, working through projects from schematic design to construction documentation. While this experience was valuable, I felt that something was missing. In 2022, I enrolled at FIU’s School of Architecture to explore digital fabrication processes more deeply. This shift led me to dedicate my final thesis to material experimentation, assembly, and fully engaging with the tools and resources available to me.

Project A

I was fortunate to have my thesis project partially funded, allowing it to be built and installed at The Kampong National Tropical Garden in Coconut Grove, Miami. Through this opportunity, I worked with CNC machines, a KUKA robot, and Bambu printers to develop and complete the project during the summer following my 2024 graduation. The final result, titled REMNANT, is something I am incredibly proud of. As my first public installation, it represents a culmination of my recent experiences and marked a clear turning point in my journey, one that naturally led me to Fab Academy.
