Week 18: Applications and Implications

Questions

What will it do?

It will launch a cat toy when told and then reel the toy back in after a certain amount of time and reload itself.

Who's done what beforehand?

In Fab Academy 2018 from the Santa Chiara Lab made a catapult for the group machine assignment. Here is their documentation.

What sources will you use?

What will you design?

I will design a catapult out of wood. I will also design a circuit board that can connect to and control a motor to reload the catapult.

What materials and components will be used?

Where will it come from?

How much will they cost?

What parts and systems will be made?

What processes will be used?

What questions need to be answered?

How will it be evaluated?

If the catapult can launch a toy, reel the toy back in, and then reload itself then I will consider it successful.

What tasks have been completed?

What tasks remain?

What has worked? What hasn’t?

I have found that I need some sort of hinge that will keep the arm straight. In a test version, I just attached the arm with some string which did not work.

What questions need to be resolved?

I need to figure out a balance between a spring tension and motor strength so it will both have a good launch strength and be able to reload itself.

What will happen when?

What have you learned?

At the very least, I’ve learned I still need to work on my time management skills.
