Invention: Zentinelbot, a surveillance and security robot

ZentinelBot is an autonomous robot designed for indoor and outdoor surveillance. It integrates real-time monitoring, obstacle detection, and wireless data transmission, making it an efficient tool for enhancing modern security systems. Therefore, to ensure that the ZentinelBot project has a significant impact and reaches the right audiences, a comprehensive dissemination plan has been designed. First, all documentation and results will be published on the FabAcademy platform, facilitating access to the global academic community. In addition, presentations and demonstrations could be organized at the university where I currently work, thereby sharing the project with professors and colleagues, encouraging the exchange of ideas and potential improvements.

On the digital front, the project will have a public repository on GitHub, which will include code, manuals, and visual resources. In parallel, social media and a personal blog will be leveraged to showcase progress and results, increasing visibility among robotics professionals and enthusiasts.

Finally, contact will be sought with companies in the security and technology sectors to explore collaboration and business development opportunities. Legal protection through intellectual property will also be arranged, ensuring the project's recognition and security for future negotiations and growth. This outreach plan is designed to maximize outreach, foster collaborations, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the ZentinelBot project.

ZentinelBOT intellectual property and patent

The ZentinelBot project is currently in its initial development phase, during which significant technological advances have been made that demonstrate great potential for patent protection. However, to meet the rigorous requirements of novelty, utility, and non-obviousness demanded by intellectual property offices, it is necessary to continue improving and perfecting certain technical and functional aspects.

To date, the robot's structure has been designed and manufactured using 3D printing with PLA filament, which has allowed for lightweight and customizable parts. To ensure efficient mobility, the robot incorporates six strategically distributed motors, which facilitate its movement over various surfaces. An ultrasonic sensor has also been integrated to detect obstacles and contribute to autonomous navigation. Complementing this system is a camera that provides real-time visual monitoring capabilities.

Intellectual property

To protect the intellectual property of my final project, ZentinelBot, I have decided to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) .

This license allows anyone to share and distribute the content in any format or medium, as long as certain conditions are met: proper credit must be given to the author, the material must not be used for commercial purposes, and it is not permitted to modify or alter the original work in any way.

With this choice, I seek to facilitate the dissemination of the project while respecting its integrity and ensuring that my authorship is recognized.

This license is subject to the following conditions:

  • Proper credit must be given to the original creator.
  • The material may not be used for commercial purposes.
  • No modifications, adaptations, or derivative works are allowed.

Future income possibilities

As the original author of the project, I have full authority to generate income through the sale, marketing, or provision of services related to ZentinelBot. The license I have chosen, Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0), restricts only commercial use of the material by third parties. This means it prevents others from using, modifying, or selling the project for commercial purposes without my prior authorization. In this way, I maintain control over the commercial use of my work, while allowing it to be shared and disseminated non-commercially, ensuring the protection of my intellectual property rights and the possibility of directly monetizing it.

  • Direct Product Sales
Once the prototype is perfected, ZentinelBot could be manufactured and marketed as an autonomous surveillance system for homes, offices, or industries.
  • Monitoring and Subscription Services
Offer monthly or annual remote monitoring services using the robot’s camera and sensors, with real-time alerts for users.
  • Technology Licensing
License the hardware design, software, or algorithms to security companies or robot manufacturers to integrate into their products.
  • Customization and Adaptations
Provide personalized services for specific adaptations according to client needs (for example, integration with existing security systems).
  • Sale of Accessories and Updates
Market additional modules, extra sensors, or software improvements as complementary products.
  • Consulting and Custom Development
Offer development and integration services of autonomous systems based on ZentinelBot technology for corporate clients.
  • Participation in Governmental or Private Tenders
Submit the project to obtain contracts with public or private entities requiring automated security solutions.

Presentation of the final project

Conclusions:

This experience at the Fab Academy, taught by Professor Neil Gershenfeld, allowed me to acquire and apply advanced knowledge in digital manufacturing, strengthening both my technical skills and my critical and creative thinking in innovation.

This course has provided me with the necessary skills to design, prototype, and critically reflect on how my developments, such as the Zentinel Bot, a surveillance and security robot, can contribute to society from an ethical, responsible, and sustainable perspective.

Completing the Fab Academy has been a comprehensive learning experience that has allowed me not only to acquire skills in digital manufacturing, electronics, and design, but also to understand the importance of intellectual property and the various mechanisms for protecting and sharing innovation.
