About me

marcela gonzales photo, Sure, here is a descriptive alternative text in English for the image:A woman with long curly hair and a thoughtful expression is looking slightly upwards. She has a nose piercing and is wearing small black earrings. In the foreground, there are colorful, wavy lines in blue, yellow, and green, which appear to be digitally superimposed over the image, giving it a dynamic and abstract feel. The background is solid black, making the woman and the colorful lines stand out prominently.

Hello, my name is Marcela Gonzales and I am an industrial designer, when I chose my career I was not sure what I was getting into, I was only sure that I really enjoyed creating things with my hands. After 12 years practicing my profession I have realized that, another important reason why I still love being an industrial designer, is that I like to solve and fix things (as much as possible). For the last 10 years I have worked in digital fabrication and research labs, and for the last 5 years I have been part of the Fab Lab team at the University of Lima. Among the projects that I have most enjoyed developing in my time here, are the projects that mix inclusion, education, culture with digital fabrication. The union of these axes has allowed me to generate and see the implementation of proposals that have positively impacted minority populations, such as blind people.

My motivation to develop these projects is to make visible a minority that is left aside and is usually seen only as the functional diversity that characterizes them (blindness). It is left aside the fact that they should have the same opportunities to be active members of our society and we as part of their community have the responsibility to make common spaces inclusive for all and not only for the majority. For example, in PerĂº public education is failing and it is failing especially to people with functional diversities and this is something that can still be corrected and I have proven that I can generate changes from my profession.
