Week 17: Invention, Intellectual Property and Income
For this week, I considered and worked on a plan to disseminate my final project, and projects in that vein I
will develop in the future.
The Creative Commons licenses
website was very helpful.
Their website features a license engine that
helps you determine which license is best for you, which is what I did.
After answering the questionnaire on the
webpage, the appropriate license was Creative Commons
Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC
BY-NC-SA 4.0).
This license means that you are free to:
- Share- copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
- Adapt- remix, transform and build upon the material.
- The licensor cannot revoke these freedoms as long as you follow the license terms.
Under the following terms:
- Attribution- you must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
- Non Commercial- you may not use the material for commercial purposes.
- ShareAlike- if you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.
- No additional restrictions- you may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.
Lastly, since for my final project I am using the Bela Mini system, I checked on their webpage for any licensing specifications and here it what they specify, which gives me an idea of how to operate with their products:
As for disseminating my project, as I develop sound objects/pieces that will likely incorporate
commercial boards, I will use the above licensing agreement given that it's compatible to the board I'm
currently using and I'd want to have restrictions on others using my work for profit.
This is important because eventually, I will commercialize these instruments via my personal page and intend to
apply for arts funding/subsidies with them.
Slide and Video
I made the slide and video presentation in one day, so here is the finished product:
