About me

Hi, my name is Nicolas Kaufmann. I have been a Fab Manager at AgriLab in Beauvais, France, since October 2022.

My role involves assisting users in getting acquainted with the various machines and tools in the workshop and helping them design their projects. I am also dedicated to the continuous improvement of our space to offer new possibilities for our users.

One of my key accomplishments at AgriLab has been designing a 180hour bachelor’s program based on the FabAcademy program where students learn essential prototyping and documentation skills. Additionally, I modified Théo Gauthier robot to make it autonomous using RTK technology (Centipede RTK, Ardupilot…) and ensured the full functionality of our plasma cutter (linuxCNC - QtPlasmaC - Mesa Board).

My expertise spans all the tools and machines found in a Fab Lab, with a particular focus on woodworking and metalworking equipment, as well as 3D modeling. My journey into the world of Fab Labs began during my design studies at ENSAAMA in Paris, where I developed a keen interest in the DIY culture. My dissertation explored the relationship between DIY practices and contemporary design. Afer that, during my Master’s in Research, Innovation, and Engineering Design at ENSAM in Paris, I also contributed to the development of a design aid method for additive manufacturing : CREAM - ANR.

I specialize in industrial design and have a strong interest in mechanical engineering and art. In my previous position, I collaborated with artists and Fab Labs in the Amiens region. Now, I aspire to develop a collaborative project on agricultural robotics with Fab Labs from around the world.

Outside of work, I am passionate about art, photography, playing the guitar, riding my motorcycle, and rock climbing.

My core philosophy is empowerment through the appropriation of technologies and techniques by everyone.
