Assignment: develop a plan for dissemination of your final project
My project is about artistic research. The goal is not create a new product or tool, is not about filling some need neither being functional. Not looking for a function doesn't mean that the machine I am doing is completely useless, I am sure that I could find an utility if the approach was different, but is not my goal.
Invention
Technologically speaking, it's nothing new. As you can see along the website, through all the collected references, my final project is just a remix of other machines and existing projects. Its contribution is on giving a new point of view, it's about telling a new story. For me it's not important the tool itself, but you can do or communicate with it.
Intellectual property
I care alot on how to credit well my work, especially to get people understand the context of the project. Because of that, at the beginning of Fab Academy, when we had to decide about a licence to release our documentation, I chose a Creative Commons licence. After some more time researching, and following the initiative from one of the main references for the project, I determined to change from BY-NC to BY-SA, which means that the work done during the academy, including my final project, become a Free Cultural Work.
Income
The project is not looking for income in an explicit way, but if it finds some, and it resonates with its objectives, the income will be welcomed. A comfortable economic situation will help to grow the project in impact and discourse, and I am sure also that derived artwork will emerge naturally.
If I analyse some other projects developed during the academy, on the press-fit construction kit or the invisible water gun, for example, a dissemination plan using crowdfunding platforms as Kickstarter, would be one of the better options.
