Final Project Proposal

Project Summary:

I would like to make a dress that can store musical noises, react to touch, and record midis.  The idea of this dress is to challenge the person wearing the suit to be void of personal space, while the person interacting with the dress will use nonconventional methods to record short sounds. The midi files should be able to be uploaded to social networking sites immediately using the wireless internet potential of raspberry pi. The short songs made will be able to be shared with friends and family instantly.

I will need to have several touch pads or screens that can store different noises. Using my own created arduino, I can wirelessly transmit midi files to the touch pads. I may need to build a custom case for the Pi, which would need to be strapped to the users body or somehow safely integrated into the dress, perhaps in the padding of a built-in bra. The main controls to stop, start, and upload to social media would be done via small touch-screen most likely attached to front of garment. Dress would need to be made of durable, yet pliable material.

I plan to use custom made flexible circuits or conductive thread to bind everything together.

RESOURCES AND INSPIRATION:

High Low Tech: http://hlt.media.mit.edu/

Some people have already created musical suits:

Others have used low-tech methods to make musical suit concepts such as Sonic Fabric: (In which I hope to incorporate)
