CHECK LIST

Individual assignments

  • develop a plan for dissemination of your final project prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080)
  • and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB)
  • and put them in your root directory

DISSEMINATION PLAN

As I mentioned on my final project page and applications and implications there are already commercial options for this kind of product, however, the options that I have found are not very aesthetic (especially the DIY ones) or they become too expensive. What I am looking for with this design is to create an option that we can have at home, as a decorative element and that you can build yourself at low cost, that can adapt its dimensions to the space available in different homes and that in some way is very small contribution to caring for the environment.
Most of the parts are easy to assemble and manufacture in a local Lab, materials are cheap and easy to find. What I consider the most expensive and complicated part is the PCB manufacturing (the brain of my composter) but still is doable with patience and maybe some lab experts help.
All the process and steps will be documented on my page, and anyone could access and replicate its own vermi composter easylly. For this I could also create an Instructable to create one at home.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The MIT license is an Open Source initiave and we are backed up by it as Fab students. All of my work is avaliable for anyone to use my documentation without restrictions, it can be copied, modified, merged, distributed.

SUMMARY SLIDE - DRAFT

For the slide I want to show where this idea started, how I developed my project, the technologies I used to produce it and the final result with the bin and systems working.
I will use illustrator to create it with some vectors to explain all the steps. The scheme color will be gray which allows other colors to pop up, few texts and pictures of the process.
It is important to keep on mind that the size for this assigment is 1920x1080

VIDEO CLIP - DRAFT

For the video I will use Kdenlive, an open code video editor, really easy to use, free and that does not need a licence (It is the first time I use it, doesn't seem to have too much editing, effects and other options, but it's been usefull for this task)
You can download it from the next link:
Kden live - video editor

The idea I have for the video is to show all the process I've gone through in the production of the bin, from the design to the final product. I will use illustrator to generate additional images such as the cover, transition images, composition of several photos, texts, among others.
Also, I want to incorporate an essence of video made frame by frame, for which a large number of images are required from the same point to generate the idea of movement.

To compress the video I though I would need an additional software but found that in the rendering options in quality you can change the values and have the video according to the size limit (10MB)

VIDEO CLIP - FINAL

For the video I want to show the process starting from the design and step by step until I connect all the sensors. Show the interaction of the sensors with the environment and how they alert the user of things that are happening with the bin and warn you to take action.

FINAL THOUGHTS

I really enjoyed making the summary of my project to share with others, the realization of the slide and the video take time for which I recommend doing it little by little and in advance. I would have liked to add additional effects and details or tell a little more through videos of my project, so I leave this mental notes for future projects "making the videos of the processes, regardless of a previous script, may be useful in future work " and "practice more on kdenlive and try other programms wich have all the features". Found out about Camtasia too late, it has a lot of interesting features but you just have 1 month free trial. I hope I don't have to edit my photographs a lot since they have been taken at different times and with my cell phone (which does not have the best qualities).
